Shankaracharya Nyas has also played an active part in promotion of traditional Indian arts, especially Indian classical music, literature & dance, Yoga and Lectures by eminent authors and eminent schollars in Nashik through its Sanskrutik Vibhag (Cultural Wing) for a few years now. Beginning with the evergreen ‘Geet Ramayan’ concert presented by Shri. Shridhar Phadke in September-2012, Sanskrutik Vibhag has been hosting approximately one concert every quarter and have, so far, hosted classical music concerts by Pt. Venkateshkumar, Vid. R. Kumaresh (Violinist) & Vid. Jayanti Kumaresh (Veena-exponent), Pt. Vijay Sardeshmukh, Malhar Festival (featuring four upcoming artists) and a couple of other concerts based on devotional music featuring very popular artists in Maharashtra. A special feature on the Marathi translations of Kalidas’s ‘Meghdoot’ has also featured here as a part of Nyas’s cultural activities. Music-lovers in Nashik have responded very positively to these concerts and we can proudly say that our events have set new benchmarks for cultural activities in this city. All these concerts have been organized in the Nyas’s own well-appointed air-conditioned & acoustically balanced auditorium on an ‘Open-to-All’ (no entry fee) basis to attract maximum public participation in such activities. Moreover, the cream of the society from all walks has started regularly patronizing these initiatives in a big way. The entire activity has been made possible again through public donations and participation.
Recognizing the contribution and social standing enjoyed by Sanskrutik Vibhag in the Nashik’s socio-cultural eco-system, the National Center for Performing Arts (NCPA), Mumbai, one of the most reputed organizations in the country, has joined hands with Shri Shankaracharya Nyas Sanskrutik Vibhag for hosting quality concerts of Indian Classical Music in Nashik. These co-hosted & co-branded events have generated an enthusiastic response from music lovers in Nashik and have become very popular. We have, so far, hosted respected and popular artists like Pt. Ulhas Kashalkar under this arrangement and also held a ‘Yuva Sangeet Mahotsav’ featuring four quality artists of the younger generation. A novel listening session has also been hosted at Nashik with content provided from the NCPA archives.
