Late Shri. Moropant Pingale, the senior RSS-Functionary, advised and encouraged Shankaracharya Nyas to take up a project of Goshala for cows of Indian breed. It was his active support and persistent follow-up that helped the project at Nashik come to fruition. It was, once again, at Late Pingale’s perseverance that the project came into being solely on the support of donations from public domain. Bhoomi Pooja performed at the hands of Shri. Madhubhai Thakkar of Trust. The trust donated Rs.1,11,000/- for Goshala.
With support from Go-Vidnyan Anusandhan Kendra at Devalapar (near Nagpur), Shankaracharya Nyas authorities planned the facility. Shri. Samruddha Mogal (Architect) and Shri. Krishnakumar Rao (Civil Contractor) executed them to perfection. The construction was started on 31-August-2005 and the facility was inaugurated on the auspicious day of Vasu-Baras, also the remembrance of Late Dr. Kurtakoti, the 29-October-2005.
The project has been fortunate to receive generous public support right from its inception and, on the day of inauguration, it had fifty donors of ` 10,000/- each. The donors to the goshala are honored with the honorific title of ‘Go-Palak’! The project started with 25 cows and today houses more than sixty pure-breed cows. It was renamed as ‘Moropant Pingale Goshala Prakalp’ in recognition of the man who was the inspiration behind the project. You can also donate and become a ‘Go-Palak’ by clicking on the ‘Donate’ link at the bottom of this page.
The project also markets several by-products like ‘Go-Mutra Ark’ (Cow Urine Concentrate with high medicinal values) manufactured under scientific & hygienic conditions, compost manure & cow-dung cakes for organic fuel - ‘Gandul Khat’
The Goshala project also features on the Nyas’s annual calendar with ‘Vasu-Baras’ during Diwali celebrated as ‘Samuhik Go-Poojan’ day which also happens to be a day of remembrance to Late Shankaracharya Dr. Kurtakoti.
