Shri Vyankatesh Balaji Mandir is situated in the very place where Late Shankaracharya Dr. Kurtakoti spent his last years in meditation on the banks of the holy river Godavari. The place, formerly known as Shri Shankaracharya Mutt, is located at a picturesque location near Someshwar Waterfall on the outskirts of Nashik and is very peaceful & inspiring.

The concept to build the temple originated from installing the holy idols of Shri Vyankatesh, Shri Amba & Shri Padmavati used by Dr. Kurtakoti in his daily pooja-routines at a suitable location. After consulting several experts and eminent persons in the society Shri Shankaracharya Mutt was chosen as the location for the new temple and the auspicious ground-breaking ceremony was performed on 02-May-2003. The design for the temple was drafted by the renowned architect Shri. Vijay Dikshit in consultations with the then trustees of the Nyas while Shri. Sanjay Ratnaparakhi worked on the RCC-Design for the project. The project saw completion under the supervision of Arch. Shri. Samruddha Mogal in 2006 as Shri. Dikshit passed away in the year 2004. Renowned civil contractor Shri. Krishnakumar Rao carried out the responsibility of actual construction in a selfless manner and saw the project to its logical conclusion.

The uniquely designed temple faces East and has an octagonal sanctum-sanctorum. It has five shikhar (domes) and six arches decorated with artistic carvings. It was only after the construction had progressed considerably that the Trustees of the Nyas became aware of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthan Trust’s arrangement of donating a carved Shri Vyankatesh Balaji Idol to a temple in every district of India. The Tirupati authorities agreed to donate one such idol to the proposed temple by the Nyas.

The idol donated by the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthan Trust was duly received and was installed on the auspicious day of Shrawan Sh. Dashami, Yugabhdh 5108 (04-August-2006) in a grand ceremony. Shri Vyankatesh Balaji Temple is open 24X7 to all devotees irrespective of their gender, cast & creed and has now become one of the attractions in Nashik city. The ambience is calm, serene and the entire complex is maintained up-to-date meticulously.

The entire project was funded by the generous donations from numerous individuals and development in and beyond Nashik. The donations to the temple continue to flow even today and are used to fund various socio-cultural, educational activities run by the Nyas.
